OpenJDK vs Oracle JDK Export knowledge base Export     SubscribeSubscribe      Show article info

As of April 16th 2019 Oracle changed the licensing model for Java. This means that the Java version (JDK) delivered by Oracle is no longer free for commercial use.

Please note however, the Java language is still free and Java runtime environments (JDKs) are delivered by other vendors that are just as good and stable as Oracle's version

If you do not want to use the Oracle version of Java we recommend that you instead use the AdoptOpenJDK version available here: https://adoptopenjdk.net/.

The AdoptOpenJDK version of Java is rock solid and very good, it is sponsored by large vendors such as IBM and Microsoft, see here for more sponsors: https://adoptopenjdk.net/sponsors.html

Alternatively, you can use the OpenJDK version provided by Oracle release under the open source GPL License at jdk.java.net.
